The stone in the middle is a Petosky stone which is petrified fossil coral native to Michigan from when salt water sea covered Michigan.
In each hexagonal chamber of the coral lived a small saltwater marine life organism.
Sandy was trying to decide what to put in the center and her sons came in and told her Old Staffordshire looked like a big Petrosky stone.
She went to visit her daughter in law's mother and also to purchase a stone.
She said she had the perfect stone, and told her that her 4 yr old grandson found the stone on the beach last summer and she had it polished 'and now you may have it'.
