This piece is stitched with three shades of fine cotton variegated thread, hand dyed by Oliver Twists, a British company. The narrow bands of yellow, pink and greenish blue use three strands from the same skein. The wider bands in between have all possible combinations of three threads, with one of each thread down the diagonal of the square. The other wide bands have two of one thread and one of another. This was a really fascinating exercise in effects. A really well blended orange emerges when the yellow and pink threads are combined, and adding one strand of yellow to the greenish blue works also blends in. However the pink and blue combinations remain stripy, with almost no blended effect.
