Painted Canvas

Some experiments with fabric paints on white canvas.

Viscose ribbon
This piece was painted plain red. The middle is stitched in overdyed viscose ribbon by Stef Francis in a variation on T stitch. The outer stitching is sections carefully cut from a skein of Caron Watercolours. The scan does not show the texture contrast between the slightly shiny ribbon and matte perle cotton.

Flower thread
My next idea was to paint stripes. The stitching is in DMC flower thread.

Wool, beads and rayon
Red splodges of paint on yellow while it was still wet resulted in orange shapes. The flowers have scotch stitch in the middle, surrounded by French knots, in a thick wool thread called Tweedie from Rainbow Gallery. The tendrils are in overdyed boucle rayon from Stef Francis. The darker shade is picked up in the beads used to fill in between the French knots. The wool thread is very thick, so this piece is three dimensional and there is a contrast between the shine of the beads and the furry texture of the wool.
